“Energy and climate change” 23-27 mai 2016 Lusaka, Zambia
The 2016 Annual Meetings of the African Development Bank (ADB) will take place from Monday May 23rd to Friday, May 27th, 2016 at Mulungushi International Conference Centre in Lusaka, Zambia.
This year the theme of the meetings is “Energy and climate change” and will focus on one of the “five priorities” of the Bank, including “Lighting Africa and energizing.” It will also make reference to the New Covenant of the Bank on energy and the main resolutions adopted at the recent UN negotiations on climate change (COP21).
The theme of the 2016 Annual Meetings aligns two of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): SDO 7 («ensuring access for all too reliable, sustainable and modern, affordable”) and ODD 13 («take urgent action against climate change and its impacts”).
The Annual Meetings of the AfDB is the largest annual event it organizes and largest window on the world. They bring together some 5000 delegates and participants, and include forty official events, in addition to the annual meeting of the Governing Council, which is the fundamental purpose of the Assemblies.
The council of governors of the Bank are composed of the ministers of finance, trade or development of its 54 regional member countries and its 26 non-regional member countries.
Meetings are the essential forum of representatives of governments, business, civil society and the media – in Africa and elsewhere, to discuss the social and economic development of the continent.
